Student Cultural Exchange
Spanish Chapter: 5th May to 19th May 2025
Fourteen students accompanied by two teacher coordinators, participated in the Spanish Chapter of the Indo-Spanish Exchange Programme, between Delhi Public School, Gurgaon, and Istituto Italiano Statale Comprensivo di Barcellona, in Barcelona, Spain. The host school was delighted to welcome our Director Principal, Ms. Aditi Misra, whose presence brought a sense of pride and inspiration, and encouraged students as they immersed themselves in new experiences and built meaningful connections. The students gained an insight into the Spanish education system through classes on the History of Religion, Art, and Science. The visit to the European Design Institute (IED) was a highlight, particularly the workshop on ‘Design and Creativity’, which promoted a holistic, interdisciplinary learning style.
Living with host families provided a window into authentic Spanish life. Ceremonial events, including a tapas-style dinner at Plaça del Pi and a warm farewell evening attended by Mr. Gabriele Luca Fava, Italian Consulate General in Spain, infused warmth and meaning to the programme. Students also discovered major attractions throughout Barcelona. Tours to destinations such as the Sagrada Familia, Park Güell, and the Gothic Quarter uncovered the rich history and brilliant architecture of the city. Interactive learning at the Cosmo Caixa Science Museum brought topics such as Physics and Biology to life. An overnight excursion to the Parc Astronòmic, Montsec combined stargazing through a telescope with nature walks, blending science and adventure.
During the programme, meaningful friendships and relations developed between Indian and Spanish students. These relationships developed through common experiences—sometimes during formal activities, and sometimes during informal interactions. Despite the initial language barriers, communication soon became effortless. A friendly baseball game at the Olympic Stadium, Montjuïc, was a highlight when our DPS Gurgaon team made it to the finals, and the game finished in a thrilling draw. Students also got an opportunity to play Beach Volley Ball.
The Indo-Spanish Exchange in Barcelona was much more than a cultural and academic journey. It broadened our worldview, pushed our comfort levels, and helped us discover more about ourselves.
